Laser Jammer Review Guide
A Radar detector by itself is completely worthless in protecting you when you’re shot with a police laser gun.
This is because the light beam transmitted from the officer’s gun is only 18” wide at 500 feet when it strikes your vehicle.
And because the officer is trained to target the most reflective areas of your car, which are typically your front plate or headlight, by the time your detector alerts you he has already captured your speed.
Because of this the only effective device to defeat police laser speed traps is a laser jammer.
Now there are several laser jammers on the market today you can choose from we review the top four in this article; the AntiLaser Priority, the Blinder HP-905, the Laser Interceptor and the Escort Laser ShifterPro.
Database vs. Computer Algorithm
The first thing you should consider is if you need a laser jammer that can defeat all laser guns including the random pulse rate guns that are now being manufactured, or only the older style laser guns.
The Blinder, Laser Interceptor and the Escort Laser ShifterPro (which is the same jammer as the Laser Interceptor), use a database look-up table to identify the type of laser gun the officer is using and then transmits the corresponding jamming code sequence to jam.
This means if the police laser gun is not in the table, its not going to jam that gun.
Programming these new guns for these database tables is very labor intensive and very expensive.
First the manufacture has to obtain one of these guns, identify the pulse rate of that gun, develop a jamming code sequence and then enter it into their database.
This process takes months, if not years.
And here is another problem.
The newer police lidar guns now being sold such as the DragonEye uses random pulse rates, making them impossible to identify.
Because of this AntiLaser has developed new technology that uses pulse-rate matching patterns instead of a database.
This enables their laser jammer to jam ALL police laser guns including the DragonEye.
4 vs. 5
I’m sure that you’ve heard the adage that 2 heads are better then one right?
Well wouldn’t it make sense then that 5 heads are better then 4?
The Blinder and Laser Interceptor controller only have 4 ports where as the ALP system has 5 ports you can use to plug in external sensors.
This enables you to add rear protection to a larger SUV or pick-up truck without having to purchase a second system.
Can the Laser Jammer be Moved from Car to Car?
Technically you can move your laser jammer from car to car but it would be very time consuming.
Because a police officer is targeting the grill area of your car this is where you would need to install your sensors and a typical install will take you 60 to 90 minutes.
So to move it from car to car you would first need to uninstall it and then reinstall it.
How Many Laser Jammer Heads Are Needed?
The first thing you need to determine is if you want just frontal protection or frontal and rear protection.
As 95% of all laser is targeted to the front of a car this is the most important area to cover.
However in the Dallas Forth Worth area, police prefer shooting laser to the rear from overpasses, because of this you would need rear protection too.
Another factor is the type of vehicle you drive.
Smaller vehicles only need two heads to the front, while some larger vehicles may need 4, depending on the jammer.
Because of this we have put together this comparison chart to help you.
Vehicle Type | ALP | Blinder | Laser Interceptor | Escort |
---|---|---|---|---|
Motorcycle Front Protection | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
Motorcycle Rear Protection | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
Sub Compact Front Protection | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
Sub Compact Rear Protection | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
Mid Size Front Protection | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
Mid Size Rear Protection | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
Sedan Front Protection | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
Sedan Rear Protection | 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 |
Large SUV/Pickup Front Protection | 3 | 4 | 4 | 4 |
Large SUV/Pickup Front Protection | 2 | 2nd System | 2nd System | 2nd System |
Can I Add Extra Heads Later?
Depends on which system you select.
The AntiLaser Priority and the Blinder system you can. However Laser Interceptor ceased production of their system in October of 2014.
Programming and Updating
After you install you’re laser jammer you will need to program it and download any firmware updates.
With the Blinder, Laser Interceptor and the Escort Laser ShifterPro you connect your controller to a laptop that has Internet access using a USB port.
However with the AntiLaser Priority all you need USB flash drive which you download the updates from the ALP Setup website.
How Easy is it to Install?
The ALP is the easiest system to install, which will save you time and money, here is why.
You would need to drill a hole into your dash to install the power/mode switch for the Blinder, Laser Interceptor and Laser ShifterPro.
However with AntiLaser Priority system all you need is a piece of double sided tape (which is supplied) to stick your flat panel power/mode switch onto your dash.
AntiLaser Priority also offers a Bluetooth module, which mounts in your engine compartment and connects wirelessly to your controller, so you don’t have to drill holes through your firewall.
And as the ALP has over 40% better reception and jamming capabilities you will save time and money by not having to buy extra jamming heads.
Additional Accessories
Anti Laser also offers additional accessories to their system which include
AntiLaser HiFi Control Set with Speaker: Increases the volume of the ALP system with additional voice menu prompts.
ALP Connect Bluetooth Module: Wireless interface that connects your laser jammer heads to your controller.
ALP Radar GPS Module: Enables you to transform your ALP system into a remote radar detector and laser jammer combo.
ALP GPS Antenna: Interfaces with the ALP GPS Module to add GPS capacities to your system
ALP Sensor Extension Cables: Enables you to lengthen your sensor cables.
