Blinder HP-905 Laser Jammer Review
“Big Performance in a Small Package” – Radar Roy 2014
Did you know that your radar detector by itself is completely worthless in protecting you during a police laser speed trap?
When an officer targets your car with his lidar gun he is aiming for the most reflective areas of your car, which is typically your front license plate or your headlights.
And when that beam strikes your car, it’s only 18” wide at 500 feet, so unless your detector was within this 18” circle it would never alert.
And by chance it did, its too late the officer has already captured your speed.
Because of this the only effective way to protect yourself in these types of encounters is to jam the officers laser gun.
Blinder HP-905
The Blinder is an active laser jammer that you install in the grill area of your car for frontal attacks and on the rear of your car for rear attacks.
And the moment the Blinder senses a laser encounter, it activates, sending out it’s own laser signal that matches the police laser gun, rendering it ineffective and your car becomes invisible.
Now there are no federal laws in the US prohibiting you from installing one of these devices on your car as the FDA regulates laser and the light beam emitted from the Blinder is completely eye safe.
However there are some states such as Virginia, Nebraska, Texas that do prohibit you from using one of these in your car.
However when properly installed and programmed no one would never know that you’re jamming them.
We go into much more detail on how to do this in our article on installing and using your laser jammer properly on our website.
Now one of the most common questions we asked is how many heads do I need?
Well here in the US 95% of all police laser is shot to the front of approaching traffic.
So for full frontal protection on a compact car you would need two heads, for midsize 3 heads and for a full size pickup or SUV you would need 4 heads.
Then if you want to add additional heads for the rear, you would at least attach one head to your rear license plate.
Now one last recommendation and that is adding the VEiL stealth coating to your arsenal.
VEiL is a coating that you apply to the most reflective areas of your car; such as the license plate, headlights and chrome area which reduces the reflectabilty of your car by as much as 70%.
I would strongly recommend the VEiL coating even if you decide against a laser jammer as it will increase your odds at beating an expensive speeding ticket.

You say it can update via USB, but that usually takes a computer connected to the internet. Is it windows only, or does it work with Macs or others?
Right now Windows – yes you need to be connected to the Internet to download
Ray, I have two questions for you: I own a german sports car witch makes most mounting positions lower to the ground: will the lower relative hight of the sensor head effect the performance of the sensor head? Secondly, I would like to protect the sensor heads from rocks and other damaging debris; if i were to mount the sensor head behind a clear piece of Lexan will the Lexan effect the performance fo the sensor head?
Each jamming head will cover a 18″ circle, so I would cut this out in cardboard and place it in the area you want to place the head(s). You want to make sure that the most reflective areas are covered. As far as the lexan, never tested that so I don’t know
I called all of the Blinder dealers including Radarbusters on Tuesday. They all said that they haven’t received their initial shipment of Blinder HP-905 yet. How did you purchase a unit? Did you get it directly from Blinder? Is this unit juiced?
We put the test off from Saturday until we obtained a retail unit from an authorized dealer. There were 25 units shipped last Friday to the 1st dealer and we got one
What dealer did you get it from?
The 1st distributor that received units from Denmark was in the UK, they were shipped just under a 100. So shop around some of the sites there, you may find a dealer that may still have one
Photo of the shipping label, tracking numbers. How does the public know that this is not a “juiced” unit?
Simple, give me a call and we will discuss. First off you’re using a public proxy to post here to my site so you are not being truthful as to your motivation of why you are calling me out! Are you a competitor, another dealer what is your motivation???? If you want to play detective just Google the dealers and distributors in the UK, in the mean time go FYS!
I don’t have your phone number, so just post it, and I will gladly give you a call. I am on vacation, and just filling some time with reading and viewing your review. I am not a competitor or dealer. Just a consumer who has a little knowledge of how laser jammers and laser works. My motivation is that as a prospective consumer, I would like to be sure that our review of this product is accurate and will be applicable to a Blinder HP-905 Compact, if I purchase one. I played detective Google, and read some accusations that you have tested prototype units and represented them as production units when they had different specifications than the production units. No need to use foul language, Roy.
A number of things
1) I’m am very skeptical of your motivation in this specially after doing a tracert on your IP
2) I’m sure that you’re also thinking to yourself that because of the 48 hours that past that I am ignoring you or whatever. So in case you are yesterday morning I was admitted into Del Web Hospital for a medical procedure, you can call them to find that out. And today I spent the day in Mexico with my wife. You can go to my Facebook wall to see the pictures.
3) Why am I upset, well basically you are calling me a liar, based upon something you read. Did you happen to think as to what their motivation was? Do you believe everything you read? The pro-type I’m sure you’re referring to was the LI that was placed on my motorhome. Yes, it was a pro-type and the original posting regarding the test said it was and the Guys of Lidar were also present. The video that was taken that was re-posted on countless other sites however never mentioned that fact. So when that post ended up someplace else other then my testing page I was called a liar by others in the industry.
4) So now you’re demanding that I post an invoice here so I can steer traffic off my site to another. No way.
5) Again, the unit was purchased from a distributor in the UK. As you see from the video on this site that I am also a pilot and my best friend who is a pilot for United made arrangements to have the unit picked up from Heathrow and flown to Phoenix for the test so I could be the 1st in the USA to have it. The payment was made by credit card (no you’re not getting my statement).
6) So if you want to call me to get the name of the pilot and the name of the owner of the distributing company my cell phone is 623-203-6117. I will be inquisitive as to your real motivation and I will call the number back to confirm that it is you.
My only request is that once your done calling me out that you have the balls enough to post a follow-up here with an apology.
As a consumer who bought Blinder M25/M37 I can only say that they are excellent quality and very effective even against the most stealthy leo. I can only expect that the new HP905 is probably a monster unit also. As far as Radar Roy goes I have been using/researching this stuff for years and his reputation is impeccable! Just the fact that he answered/posted your questions and comments proves what a man of character he is. Thanks for the info on HP905…now if I can convince my wife that she needs my m27 on her car!
Thank you Paul for your support
Hey Roy keep up the good work! You’re always gonna have an idiot or two pop up and try to make you look bad on your website…. Screw Him!!! Anyway I wanted to know if this unit would work on motorcycles? Mainly my 2008 Suzuki Hayabusa.
Yes, will work on a motorcycle. Adaptiv made an interface for the M27 so I am hoping they make one for this unit
Juiced? Really? How so?
Even if a special model were delivered to reviewers, follow-up posts would reveal something is not right in Denmark.
I do wish there were more still photographs of it before and after installation. Size of the rotary switch would be a concern for me though. There is neither depth nor area in most cars for anything deep or large. Is it illuminated? If so, can it be controlled?
I am not sure what any advantages of being small are a sensor area is critical to sensitivity. Also, while compared to the LI series, it is not mentioned if it is the regular or HP series that is is being compared against. Even the regular series is more than adequate, though.
We were rushed for time to get this test done, we will be doing a follow-up install video on my F-350. It was the HP regular that was mounted on the SUV
Roy
I am currently running Blinder system’s in two of my vehicles and Escort in three of my vehicles and what I really want to know is…….which units had the best test results for jamming laser??
So far I have only been hit with laser on the blinder and it worked great..
I am driving in Alberta Canada
The new Blinder HP-905 and the LI are both the top laser jamming units
Ok Roy I traded the Ford Excursion just before I was going to buy LIJAMER, SO TELL WERE I PUT THE SENSORS ON A 07 LX470 Lexus on front and one one rear as I live in the DFW area. And I will pull the trigger on this Blinder,Ted
Cool, let me know your thoughts on install and use
I AM WONDERING IF A LOWER SPOT RATHER THAN IN THE GRILL WOULD WORK IT IS CLOSER TO THE FRONT PLATE, ALSO HAVING TROUBLE FINDING SPOT FOR REAR SENSOR AS THE TAIL GATE IS IN TWO PARTS OPENING. ANY THOUGHTS? TED
What type of Pickup?
Not a pickup the Lexus LX470 has a dropdown gate and lift up top window so that is where the placement problem seems to be. Ted
Can you fabricate some sort of mount that would attach to the rear plate?
In response to Roy Reyer statement: The Laser Ally is not licensed for sale within the USA so until it is no review.
International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conforming product list Enforcement Technology Program as of April 30,2012 list the Dragoneye Technology LLC Laser Ally Gun speed measuring device and systems. KSK, thank you, my bad….
Now got to save $$$ for another damn gun
Roy one another question, compare the LI to HP 905 i KNOW THE SIZE OF THE SENSORS are DIFFERENT , how about self shut off or delayed off like the LI and other differances. I am ready to purchase , so any help to confuse the issue is welcome. Thanks for your support to help us drive safer. Ted
By default they are set for 7 seconds however you can shorten it in the programming
Does the HP HAVE A AUTO CUT OFF?
Yes, currently at 7 seconds
Roy the LI says, it sends no code when jamming that seems like a plus to LI, I can deal with either size sensors, so does the HP have a parking switch like the opt. switch the LI has. The other item is RadarBusters can’t deliver till the end ofthe month on HP. What’s your take on allof my points? I did find the spot for either unit on the rear for one sensor. Thanks again Ted
All jammers will send a code to some laser guns including the LI. As far as being out stock right now I know that they are selling fast. Blinder is sending a bunch of new units to RB soon
If All Jammers send a code, then once they Jam then the LEO will know that you are using a Jammer?
Other things send codes too, like sun and reflection. And the idea is to be slowed down before a code is thrown and your jammer is already off
Roy I purchased HP through RB using your code, Aug. 2nd delivery, Thanks for you guidance. You have been my shepard for nearly ten years. Will let you know how the install goes maybe by the time I get the unit, you will post a install video. Ted
Thank you for your support and yes please send me your review & comments. Always love to hear from members of our community
Will do the review and send you pics of the install. I just got email from RB they are shipping today will have by Tues. I am sure I will have some questions. Thanks again , maybe you remember getting a Rocky Mountain Radar jammer in the mail about ten years ago , that was from me.Ted
Roy got the HP Tues. Placing the sensors will be no problem, I must say that instructions on install very weak and nothing on making adjustments. Denmark web site has nothing on the HP. Any ideas. Ted
They are pushing these so hard that out the door they forgot the manual. Just remember to keep the sensors straight and level, use the kit that comes with. I use double sided GM tape to mount, much easier
Will they send a manual to me?
I would give them a call email me direct using the contact forum if you don’t have their email
Roy talked to Leon, info will be on line soon, also I was told they are making a bracket for rear plate, so I think life will be good shortly. Ted
Hi Roy, I have an ’08 Corvette with a front license plate (NY). Do I need a radar detector in addition to the Blinder HP-905, or does the Blinder HP-905 serve as a multi-function unit?
What’s your recommendation for the top of line system (laser/jammer/radar detector) to give me ultimate peace of mind?
Thanks,
Glenn
The HP-905 is only a laser jammer, does nothing for radar, so yes you would need a radar detector too
As far as a system, would recommend the Blinder HP905 for laser and the Bel STiR Plus for radar
Great review Roy!
Hey Roy, I see you recommended the Bel STiR Plus for radar. Would this unit be better than the Escort Red Line? I have heard that the RL may have better distance. But I will buy what you suggest…..YOUR THE MAN….in my book….
I do plan on getting the HP905 with it, also…
Just depends on which one is right for you, they are both top notch
The STI is remote
Redline dash
Roy , as you know I have the three head HP , I have the LX470Lexus which is the same as the Land Cruiser, in size do you think I should purchase another head for the rear (dfw)? Ted
If you’re in the DFW area yes, they like shooting laser to the rear from overpasses
Will Radar Busters, sell the singel heads?
I don’t think so
Roy I have the 4th head coming , form Blinder, wyer to put thm is the problem .One was easy two becomes a problem , I want the best coverage but the 2nd is a hard placement . Any thoughts on LX470 Lexus. Thanks Ted
Have not done an install on a LX470 but it should be fairly straight forward
Love to see some pictures when its done
Roy, I talked leon
with blinder he thinks put three heads in the grill and and the 4th on the rear plate either on top side or lower the plate has a xxxxxxx lEXUS WORDING IN black and it is sturdey so should get good hold and not show out. Another thought is attach it to rear camara bottom, do you think that would be a good place for coverage My installer just got back from vacation. This unit is soo small. Can’t wait to install. Ted
Cool, send some photos, would love to see them after the install
Roy,
Do you have any experience or suggestions on mounting the HP-905 or any other unit behind the headlight plastic? (as in cracking the headlight open, and sticking a unit inside) will it decrease performance?
Not yet, been thinking of doing such an install. Be interested myself on how it would work
Hi Roy, I asked. It is available with all versions of every speed camera detectors officials. I want to run for the country thai. If you insist that it is available. I will buy it.
Thanks,
Chai
Available with speed cameras?. Of all kinds in the world?

Don’t understand your question, sorry
Just a couple of questions- I am having my unit the HP-905 installed professionally tomorrow 8/14/12. Just a couple of questions= what does the mode button on the cpu do since there is a 4 position rotary switch? What does the sun interference warning mean? All for ports are checked in the software/firmware download on the desktop- is this normal and finally the region on the usb download on the computer says “international”- being shipped directly from hayneedle.com, I assume the cpu is made for the US too. Thanks Roy.
The mode setting allows you to switch from parking sensor only, to laser detection only to full laser jamming. Bright sunlight can interfere with laser, this is just a warning to be careful that bright sun is interfering with the unit. The unit is for use in the USA
I just installed my hp-905 system in my car. I have the same question as Cactusman. What position should the “Mode” button on the CPU be switched to for Defense mode? To the left or to the right? The “0-1-2-3” dial switch is hooked up to the CPU as well. Is this optional, do they do the same thing? Meaning, can I run the CPU without the 0-1-2-3 dial switch? Also, when the system is on, the CPU lights for ports 1 and 2 are RED. Should they be green? I see on their website they light up green, so I wanted to be clear they are working ok.
DK and Sean, hope this answers both of your questions:
You can run the CPU without the remote switch. INT/EXT should be INT. If you run the remote switch (mode) should be to the left (L) INT/EXT should be EXT. The remote switch gives you Park, Detection and Jamming. If you don’t run the remote switch you have L/P laser/park.
Yes ports 1,2 are red and 3,4 are green. They were trying to do a front/rear thing but it just caused a lot of questions.
Sounds like it’s working.
is the 0-1-2-3 switch do the same thing as the “mode” switch on the CPU? Is the 0-1-2-3 switch optional for installation? Also, The lights for my 1 and 2 ports light up red, should they be green?
See SB1’s reply for more detail but yes: If you run the remote switch (mode) should be to the left (L) INT/EXT should be EXT. The remote switch gives you Park, Detection and Jamming. If you don’t run the remote switch you have L/P laser/park.
Hi Roy,
I asked. It is available with all models of automatic speed cameras?.
http://upic.me/i/on/102324-46.jpg
The link you provided is a laser system so yes. Will not work on radar based camera systems
Hi Roy,
Thanks for the answer. I am not clear answer.
You mean. If a speed camera is a type of laser. It is available.
I want to know more that.
It is available with all models& the brand of laser Gun automatic speed cameras ?
I’m sorry I’m not good at English.
Thank you.
** It is a laser gun models and brands?

http://upic.me/i/88/orada.jpg
The blinder is a laser jammer, not a radar jammer. So as long as the speed gun is using laser it will jam
I would have to use it. The 90-100% protection against Laser speedcamera.. Help guide me. I have used several models. But it did not work. BELTRONICS BEL VECTOR 995, WHISTLER PRO-78 SE, WHISTLER xtr-695
for thailand
Thank you.
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/265/camarat.jpg/
These are all radar detectors you have used. they wouldn’t jam laser
Hi Roy,
Been reading your reviews & recommendations & have purchased a model in the past based on them. Now I need more protection now & your guidance. Based on your reviews, the Blinder HP905 & the Bel STR + would be the best for my new Ferrari. I went to a local installer who recommended the K40. What are your thoughts and thank you in advance.
Never go back to that local installer, PERIOD!
The retail mark-up is astronomical on those things
Do some more research on Radartest and YouTube and you will see what I mean.
Go with the STiR and the 905 if you want something that work
Hi Roy,
Thanks for the answer.
Can you please look And told me that. It’s a speed camera brand and model?
Thank you

have no idea on the model, not familiar with it
Hi Roy,
I finally found an Audio & Security shop to install my new Blinder HP 905 today. The owner said there is a new Laser gun which doesn’t have to be pointed at headlights or license plates. He said it can be pointed anywhere on the vehicle, and it reads back the vehicle’s speed even before the Blinder will able to alert the driver. Is this fact of fiction?
THanks,
What’s the name of the gun? Sounds like fiction
The installer does not know the name of the laser gun, he just heard about it. Nice to know it’s fiction…whew…
Helpful Hint: Today was my first trip to work after having my Blinder installed. It was configured so that the stereo would turn off when an alert would come through. I blast my toons so I thought this would be the best option. Turns out, the sunrise hits the back of my car as I head due West to work. Every 10 seconds Mike, the automated voice, warns about sun interference, and I had to listen to this all the way to work without the stereo! 🙁 On my lunch break the first thing I did was take my car back to the shop to have the radio option disconnected. Hope this saves somebody else the hassle.
Thanks for the heads up on this!
You mention not to jam to gun(JTG)but what is the safest and easiest way to disable the 905 while driving? There seems to be two options, the Mode Selector Switch and the On/Off Volume switch. I perfer not to use the auto 7 second as this is too long. Thank you.
You can program the 905 to shut down automatically at different settings starting at 1 second
I recommend 5
This is capable of working standalone then? I’d likely pair it up with my 9500ix, but I’m interpreting the reading as such. What would be the type of updates these sort of items would need anyway?
Yes, it is designed to be a stand alone laser jammer. Each 4 to 5 months log into their website and check if new updates have come out. If they have download and plug in your controller
Can the LIDAR gun detect that it’s being jammed and alert the officer to this? I live in a state where jammers are illegal so I’m trying to figure out if I should risk getting one installed.
Thank you and keep up the great work!
There are some that will receive a jam code but any bright light like the sun will also give the code.
This is why its smart to have your system shut down in say 5 seconds so they can get your speed
I have a 2012 Black Chevy Camaro and live in South Florida. I use a Beltronics GX-65 detector, but I am considering also adding a laser jammer. Which would you recommend better for me the ZR4 or Blinder HP905? And if the Blinder is the recommended choice would the dual one suffice? Thanks!
I would recommend the HP-905 because of its slim profile and because of its performance
Thanks Very Much! Would the Dual or Triple version of the Blinder HP-905 be better for my type of car (Camaro)?
The dual version will work but if you have a front plate would consider the 3 head and mounting the 3rd above the plate
i just bought a quad 905 a week ago to be intalled on my new forester, i got the 10% discount as well. I will have a chance to test this when we go skiing at sugar mountain NC in Jan 2013. The route i picked is the infamous North 301 (waldo, starke………) going to I-10, so u know i have quite a bid challnge ahead coz they r not as linient to speed like tampa area.
I am going to purchase the HP-905 for my 2005 Tahoe. I am in Florida so I do not have a front license plate. Do I need the triple or quad version? Where should the sensors be mounted?
On your SUV would go with the Quad
2 on each side and then 2 up and down in the middle, like a cross
Here in GA, troopers and officers usually shoot laser at the windshield. That being said, any idea how it would do for me to mount 2 heads on the bumper, and 1 in the windshield? I would most Limey mount it behind the rear view mirror. (Between the mirror itself and the windshield). Also the troopers around here are quite prone to shoot the rear of your car. Would 1 head be enough on the rear of my 06 Mustang?
I doubt if they are shooting your windshield, that is the most unreflected area of a vehicle
2 in the grill and if you want reliable protection to the rear, 2 to the rear
I just finish mounted two of my quad 905’s on front grill pointing straight, still undecided how to deploy the last two sensores I had tought about mounting third sensor in between the wipers, I just have to fabricate a mount using a flexyglass(I have it all figured out) even before I came across tylers issue. another issue is that how about if the LEO’s are shooting from an angle much farther away from the road which create at least 20 to 30 degrees shooting angle and because of that my idea is to put three on the front grill(two sides pointing about 15-20 degrees on each side and a center sensor pointing straight. and the fourth sensor just above the license plate behind the car. That said, my question is have they ever shoot laser while hiding more than 50 feet away from the road, or is it prefered method to shoot on road shoulder to get as parallel to the road as possible. Thanks tyler, Thanks Roy.
I wouldn’t put a jammer head that high, on the windsheild
And to get the best protection they need to be mounted straight ahead, level with the road. NEVER on any angle
Hi Roy,
I would first like to thank-you for the many years of advice. Thanks to you, I have purchased the Blinder Extreme M27 and the Beltronics STI. Unfortunately, although the Blinder lights are working when I turn on the car, I got hit last year with an extreme speeding ticket in which it was then that I found the Blinder is no longer working.
I am going to get the Blinder HP 905 as you recommend but would like your valued opinion on the following questions please:
1) I live in the eastern part of Canada and in the winter it gets to -40F with the wind chill before I start driving. Do you think that the HP with a windchill of me driving still work as effectively as in a tropical climate?
2) I have an Audi S8 and would like to ask you if 2 are enough for the front and where would you recommend that I install them (on the grill in front of the radiator fan or way below next to the fog lights? I apologize that I do not have a photo of the car to show you.
3) Lastly, since I live in Eastern Canada, jammers are illegal and therefore I cannot readily showcase them. Therefore may you please take that into consideration when advising where to install? I know that you stated that its peak performance is an 18 inch diameter but based on your experience, where would you hit me with the radar gun in your past life.
As always, thank-you for your valuable assistance and keep up the excellent work!
Kindest regards,
Speedy Gonzalez
1 – Don’t know if anyone ever tested it in this type of enviroment, the only think I would suggest is to make sure the heads stay clean
2 – To be on the safe side would go with 3 heads on the front. One above the plate and one on each side of the grill
3 – Police are trained to target the front plate or center of mass. So that is why I would recommend 1 above the plate
Thank you for your comments and support! It is very much appreciated
Thank-you for the very quick response and wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Good afternoon Radar Roy. I just wanted to thank-you for your advice. Although your recomended website to order the Blinder does not ship to Canada (and other sites do), I wanted to show my appreciation and had a friend in Florida purchase the triple head and ship it to me. It is installed and looking forward to testing it. If there are any Smokey’s in the Halifax area reading this email, try to catch me lol.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Speedy Gonzalez
Thanks man, have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Just wanted to say awesome website, for the past 10yrs I have been coming to your site every time I got a new car and wanted to outfit it with the best defense money can legally buy. I can also personally vouch for the Blinder series of Laser Jammers, I owe Blinder my license. Here in the South if you get clocked on the highway I can almost guarantee you it will be with laser. I’ve had the M25, M27, and thanks to Radar Roy I just purchased the new HP-905 without hesitation.
I have some truly unbelievable stories of how the M25 saved me from a very expensive ticket; my favorite is when I was less than 200yds from a bridge, they were on the overpass and tried to clock me from almost straight up, I was certain it was over. The M25 still worked flawlessly.
I’ve already ordered my HP-905 and another big thanks to Radar Roy for the coupon code, saved me about $57.00 Will be installing in my new 2013 Nissan GTR along with my new V1.
Tony thank you for your comments, they mean very much to me!
Drive safe and smart…
does the cheetah install system work with the blinder HP905?
No, the current Cheetah does not support the HP905
Roy,
Thanks for your prompt reply to my earlier question. Which would you recommend, the LI or the Blinder 905? I have a BMW. Would the vertical jammer setup available from LI be an real advantage?
Performance they are about equal but the Blinder is a lot easier to install
Troubleshooted the 905, flick the side switch to “EXT” if using rotary remote, that all. Newer car anti collision sensor, my 905 had reacted to a newer cars collision laser sensor as the other cars making a left turn and passes within 10 feet of my front driver side sensor, that only happened once so far. Will be driving north NC but decided to avoid floridas HWY 301 and avoiding major speedtraps in florida, instead will take I-75 & I-10 about 28 minutes longer but i can actually gain more cozits all interstate speed compare to town speed as snail slow as 30mph in Lawtey, Waldo or Starke plus the hassle of speedtraps. Bottom line my 905 issue had been resolved, i wish it came with a better owners manual.
I live in NC and therefore do not have a front license plate. How would a cop with Laser be able to get my speed other than the back license plate? If I were to purchase one where is the best place to install it since I do not have a front license plate?
thanks
Anything that is reflective on the front of your car can be targeted, examples: headlights, bumper, chrome strips and even your windshield
Roy did u just said “windshield” ? so my idea that i brought here not too ago to mount one of the sensor(905) at the bottom of the windshield sitting centrally on top edge of the hood wasnt a bad idea after all, now the you actually said that windshield is also a target, which gives u added protection above the hood.
It’s a bad idea, I’ve been able to get readings off of windshields but it is very hard to do. Officers are trained to shoot the headlights and front plate
Hey roy great work on rhis review… i have a question though. If the sensors are suposed to be mounted level with the roadway what would you suggest for a sportbike? Im just wondering how leaning in corners would affect the sensor heads… i am also wondering what to do about radar? Is there a way to jam radar as well? Thanks for the input 🙂
Corners isn’t what is going to bite you, it’s hard braking with the front pointing down to the pavement. This is why it’s important to keep level and remember slow breaking during alerts
omg lol, i was caught so offguard today 02 Feb 2013. My 905 was intalled in my car since October 2012, then today marks the very first day that my car was hit by a laser from a sheriff vehicle i guess less than 1000 feet away, i was caught off guard that i was not able hit the remote control of my carcamera to record the event ha ha ha ha, im sure the cop also got caught by surprise for not able to clock me for 7 seconds. This area is a “KA” zone, the boys must have got some good toys from Santa during the holidays lol !
Roy have you or anyone else done any testing on the Laser Ally gun vs the 905.
SP in Mass. are using these all over the place and I can only find one test on you tube. Before spend a grand for my land yacht coverage I would like to know it works on these type guns.
Thanks
I tested it, don’t know about anyone else
Are the results posted ? Did it do as good a job aqs it did on all the other guns ?
The 1st video on this page shows all the guns it was tested on and it’s results. It jammed all the guns including the Truspeed
Maybe I am missing it but I was asking about info on the test for Laser Ally, not the LTI guns.
Just watched the video, it’s one of the guns tested, just didn’t to an outtake of it, just realized that. Sorry
It did jam it
I have a ford focus st 2013 I wanted to get the blinder 905 put in to
My car but the only thing in worried about is that we’re I would have to mount it. I think it would be
To low the ground if they hit my head light and what are your thoughts?
As long as the sensor is within 18″ of your headlamp you will be ok..
ok i the blinder 905 now and am now going to get a can of veil. Do you know if the license plate laser sheild is any good?
If you’re going to apply Veil to it, it is ok, otherwise no
got ops forgot to put that in there
Great review ! But do I need a strip on the back of my 2012 Mustang as well as the front to jam lasers ? What is the chance the price will come down ? $700.00 plus is a lot of money to most people. Thanks
Doubt the price will only go up, not increase. 95% of all laser is shot to the front, but if you want 100% you’ll need a pair for the rear
Hello Radar Roy,
I am a Southern California driver and am aware that it is illegal to own and operate a laser jammer in my state. It is almost guaranteed now that California Highway Patrol sets up random LIDAR (LTI Truspeed) speed traps around bends and straightaways and love to give speeding tickets to also help the state’s debt. Now my beltronics 940 is almost useless against this threat so the Blinder 950 is ideal. Now I’m not sure if you can answer this or not, but is it legal to install the Blinder 950 In California? The auto shutoff function is ideal and was curious if 5 seconds delay would be strange enough to the LEO to pull me over for some reason. And if I was pulled over if the Park Assist function would possibly debunk a laser jammer suspicion? I understand an answer would be opinion and not purely legal advice. Any advice and opinion is appreciated. Thank you for informing the public as extensively as you have.
Hi Matt, thanks for contacting me.
Most cops don’t even know that laser jammers exist and if they do they don’t think that they work. What is nice about the Blinder is your ability to change it from a laser jammer to a parking sensor at the flick of a switch, have a full video here explaining:
http://www.radardetector.org/is-yourlaser-jamming-legal/
In the 15 years I’ve been doing reviews I have had only one person in Texas tell me that he received a citation for having a laser jammer.
The 5 seconds is typically enough time to slow down and once your down to the legal speed limit it shuts off and the officer can now capture your speed.
Hope this helps
Can a laser work on a corvette without a front license plate?
Do you mean can laser capture your speed? Yes. I can shoot a motorcycle, bike whatever and get a reading
Howdy Roy, loved your articles and especially interested in the HP-905. Living here in Colorado, can you recommend any discreet installers? With laser jammers being illegal in Colorado I’m wondering just how much flack I can expect with the install from places like CarToys, BestBuy, etc…
Sorry, don’t know any installers up there. And as far as $$$ The normal I see is around $200
Hi Roy,
I just got the 9500ix and HP-905 based on reviews you made. I got the 9500ix set up, but I’m struggling with the poor instructions on the HP-905. I got the dual heads and I’m trying to figure out if I’m supposed to mount one in the front center and one over the rear license plate or both in the front? Also, if I don’t use the external switch and set it to use the internal, what does the mode slide switch do?
A comment about the 9500ix: the live feature doesn’t work with windows phones. Does the “merge” function on their computer software grab a new copy of the speedtrap/cam database or does it just send your marks to them for some kind of a subscription service?
This video should help you with the install of the Blinders: http://www.radardetector.org/how-to-install-laser-jammer/
You’ll need two infront unless your mounting on a motorcycle
Flip the switch to INT
The Defender database is a subscription and replaces the file in your detector
Damn, I guess I need a 3rd head for the jammer, but I can’t seem to find anyone selling a separate unit. No listing on radarbusters, suggestions?
I see, the detector has a 3 month starter subscription, that’s why the update worked.
Call this number and tell them Roy sent you 866-622-7219
Howzit Roy, Aloha from the fiftieth state!
Hey I have an old Blinder M27 on my 850whp C-6 Vette that’s performed flawlessly over the past 5 or so years, and I’d like to thank the people at Blinder, and people like yourself for putting yourself out there to provide help and information to us common folks!
I’ve recently purchased a 2014 911 Turbo S, and would like to get the latest Blinder 950 installed ASAP. I don’t run a front license plate, and the car is pretty small, would the Three Pack 950 suffice, or what do you think? The headlamps are pretty big for such a small car, which is my concern. Should I try and install the jammers in the area around the lamps and forget the middle area of the hood?
Thanks again,
K Adams
If you just want front protection the dual will work fine for you.
If you want front and rear, would recommend the quad
Radar Roy; Nicely done. Very thorough review. Gotta save a few more pennies, but will be buying the Blinder HP-905 through your recommended vendors. Thank you very much for the information!
Thank you for your comments!
Roy thanks for all the info on all this detecting tech, I am a rookie and based on some of your reviews I purchased the Blinder HP-905 for my 4 door midsize sedan. I had one question for you: I purchased the dual system but have a front license plate; will this be suffice? I live in the east coast
Isaias
Yes, I have the dual on my F350 so you should be good to go..
Drive safe
Hi Roy. I have a 2012 Audi S4 with no front plate. I am thinking of getting the HP-905 but am not sure about the placement and number of sensors (2, 3 or 4) for the front. Would you please also recommend placement? I am also thinking of a new radar detector and would like your recommendation on the Escort Max or the STI driver. Thanks for providing such great resources.
For front protection all you will need is two. Try to space them between the center of your car and each headlight. As far as the detector, I love my Max. Remember to use your 10% off discount code at checkout
I’ve been running my dual head 905 for 2 years. One word: OUTSTANDING. This is the real deal as far as total laser protection. It actually worked so good I got pulled over by a State Trooper for “illegal window tint” after the 905 jammed his gun. (I’ve since reprogrammed the unit to shut off after 5 seconds to avoid tipping of LE).
Anyway, as Roy mentioned in a previous post; most police officers 1.) either don’t know laser jammers exist or don’t think they work. or…… 2.) As in my case with the above mentioned State Trooper, know they exist but are convinced they are illegal. You see, cops forget that radar uses radar waves and LiDA R uses light to determine a vehicle’s speed. Yes, radar jammers ARE illegal. But they think any type of jammer is illegal. Glad they’re wrong!
The Trooper insisted my jammer was illegal. I objected and told him he was wrong. He spent 30 minutes in his cruiser (probably searching the michigan motor vehicle code for “the law”) before returning to my car and handing me my ticket for…………….tinted windows. Thanks to Roy’s information, I won that battle.
Also, Blinder just released another firmware update, keeping the 905 up to date in the cat and mouse game of Lidar manufactures vs. Lidar jammers.
Hellon Roy, I downloaded and read your Free book, very informative, thanks. I bought The Blinder 905MP
but from wrong place by mistake, I was on Lind and bought elsewhere and want to say sorry. I think you information is right on. I had it installed for 500 USD in my BMW 550i and only drove one road trip with nothing hitting back. I even gave an Escort 9500 IX all good for now. I will report back here once I am targeted with results, good or bad. Thanks again, Herbert
I have the Escort Max and plan on purchasing a Blinder 905 quad for my 2014 grand Jeep Cherokee Limited.where would you recommend mounting. Thank you for your help
This video I just posted on YouTube should help you out: http://youtu.be/k1n5dmJ2agw
If you still have questions contact me direct, be glad to help
Roy, thanks for all you do!! I got my radar detector through you and want to add jamming protection. But I have a few cars that I move my detector between… Can I get a four head unit and install two heads on two of my cars, then move the “main” unit around like I would my detector?
Thanks for insight.
I guess you could but be a pain in the butt to disconnect it all the time between cars Mike.
I live in Texas, and my local law enforcement says I could use two of these and it would jam there system. I am also curious, is the jammer legal in texas. I have used the escort 9500ix and it has signaled laser but never spotted the officer. I know Burleson and Fort Worth is using.
Roy, Has Blinder published an update for the HP-905 for defense against the Dragon Eye? And if not, have heard if they will and when might that be? I am shopping the Blinder HP905 (3) vs the AL Priority.
The Blinder update for the Dragon Eye was tested during our Laser Jammer shoot out two months ago, so I assume that this update is available on their website.
Roy, great tests. I understand the police gun requires a few seconds to ‘reset’ after it has been jammed, giving the driver time to slow down AND (as for the Blinder 905) can be quickly switched to another mode before being ‘shot’ again. Is this all correct?
Thanks for your comments RC – Yes you can switch modes on the fly
Dear Radar Roy,
I can’t afford the new AlertLaser Priority. I drive often on the highway in upstate NY and several times a year cross country from NY to Texas. Does the Blinder HP-905 still offer adequate protection as of 2015 or am I better off saving more money and getting the Alert Laser Priority? You said the Blinder is in the process of developing a new system but I’m assuming that won’t be out for a while. I have encountered laser traps in NY and in Houston Tx and laser really scares me because there’s no time to slow down if you don’t have protection.
Thank You
The Blinder will jam most of the police lidar guns you will encounter and it’s a good buy. Yes I’ve been told that they are working on a new system, unknown when that will come to market
Roy, I purchased the unit about 3 years ago and it has been working like it should and I been traveling all over this great country.
I do have a problem, I cannot download updates it says that my unit was not registered, but I knew that I send the registration form. So how can I get the updates, that have been send out on the website? Thanks in advance.
Sincerely
Rainer
This is the site where you would download the updates Rainer, are you going to the correct one: http://www.blinder.us/
Yes I was, deleted everything reinstalled everything and then I was able to install the updates. I now have the latest update does it include the previous updates? also I tried to test the jammer with my laser tester, it worked ok in the receiving mode , but in the defender mode, it was only one signal that was picked up during the test. Is this ok? Rainer
Which tester are you using? Many testers like hours have US and International laser guns, so unless you have that particular gun programmed it may not alert to the tester
Roy I have been out of the loop of jammers and radar detectors. I bought a Blinder HP 905 with 4 sensors 2-3 years ago off your recommend website! I was super busy had 2 kids and started my own business. I left it in the card board box it came in so every time I thought about going to get it installed I couldn’t find it! I know I been slacking.
So my question is I finally want to install it and I read here you can do an update! How would I do it on a Mac computer? Also I see that there are some new ones out should I buy a new one instead? I also would like your input on what is the best radar detector for my 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 crew cab in Chicago, IL?
I was also thinking of doing the install myself, I have installed a few car stereos about 10 years ago. Do you have any tips or install videos on installs on a full size pick up a Dodge Ram if you have one!
Thank you
Sorry been slow to respond, yes would do an update go to the Blinder site and download the tool. As far as a radar detector check out the Max 360
