Speed Trap Alerts with Escort Live Review
Imagine having a device installed in your car that would give you accurate and timely alerts to common speed trap locations while you’re driving.
Well such a device does exist and it’s called Escort Live.
This past week I was driving to the CES convention in Las Vegas on I-15 when my Passport Max2 and my iPhone began alerting me of an Air Patrol alert and then a few moments after this I received an alert of several police spotted alerts that were all entered into the Escort cloud prior to a 10-minute time frame.
I heeded this warning and slowed down, however the car next to me didn’t and sped ahead.
Well about a mile later I noticed that he was being flagged over by a Nevada State Police Officer while I continued on my way ticket free, how cool was that!
Well here is what happened.
Escort Live launched several years ago and recently they shifted through all the billions of alerts Escort Live provided and discovered that there were common hot spots, or speed traps locations.
So they prioritized all these speed trap locations and came up with high threat areas, medium threat areas and low threat areas.
They also discovered that many of these speed trap locations were done by police using air patrol, commonly called “bears in the air” where an officer flies overhead in an aircraft and measures speeders by using stop watch.
The officer then radios ground based officers with the vehicle description so they can be pulled over.
Now during this video I’ll be sharing with how you can program your Escort Live enabled radar detector so you can also be alerted of approaching speed traps.
First make sure that your smart phone and detector are paired, turn on and press on the settings icon on the bottom left of your screen.
Then press the alert button and listed will be the various Escort Live alert settings.
To activate Air Patrol, click on that button, activate it and select the distance you would want to be notified and the sound.
Next we have the Speed Trap settings, so go back to the alert settings screen and press speed traps.
On the bottom of this menu screen there is an additional menu item labeled Alert Level.
Click on that and here you can choose the alert.
High means that you would want to be alerted of all speed trap locations that have a high risk of being a speed trap location, medium for medium size risk and low means that you’ll be alerted of all the speed trap locations entered into the Escort Live cloud.
If you’re traveling in an area that you may not be familiar with, you may want to consider choosing low, so you would be warned of any location entered into the Escort Live cloud.
However if this is a route you’re familiar with, you may want to set it to high, or even consider turning it off all together, the choice is yours.
That’s all there is to it and now you’re not going to end up like the driver who passed me and got a ticket, because you’ll be warned far in advance.
