“A top performer and one of the best international radar detectors made today” – Radar Roy 2008
A top radar detector for our international audience overseas in Europe and Asia.
Beltronics Vector 995 Radar Detector Review: Updated- October 3, 2012
Top Reasons to Consider the Bel V995
- If you do extensive driving in North America and abroad the Bel V995 would be one of our top choices, it includes all the North American bands and the European Ku band.
- Ten times more range then imports that have the same radar band features
Frequently Asked Questions about the Bel V995
- I only drive in North America, would you still recommend the Beltronics V995? No, I wouldn’t. In my tests and reviews the Bel RX65 and the Escort RX65 performed much better and all three of these radar detectors are in the same price range. Spend a few extra bucks and get the RX65!
- Why doesn’t Bel honor their warranty from the detector I purchased on Ebay (or Amazon, Overstock and others)? Bel has a very strict Authorized Dealer Program and MAP policy to ensure that you, the consumer are getting the very best service and support, this policy is outlined in their manuals and on their websites. If you purchase an Escort radar detector from an unauthorized dealer and you have a problem with the unit or want to subscribe to their subscription service you will maybe denied or required to pay an extra possessing fee. For more information I invite you to read a post on my blog on how Overstock.com screwed one of their customers.
- Does this detector have 360 degree protection? Yes, every radar detector manufactured by Escort and Beltronics has full, 360 degree protection.
Potential Issues with the Bel V995 Radar Detector
- As noted on my websites, I do extensive research and tests of all the radar detectors that I review and in each test of the V955 when compared to the Bel RX65 and the 8500 x50 they have both outperformed the V995. Unless you are driving overseas, go with either of the two other models.
My Bottom Line Recommendation for the Bel V995
If you drive mostly in North America skip the V995 and go with the Escort 8500 x50 or the Bel RX65. The few extra dollars you will be investing is certainly worth the extra investment.
This Based upon my 20 years in law enforcement as a certified police radar instructor and 15 years being involved in the speed counter measurement industry, the V995 is NOT one of my top choices!
However my opinion is NOT backed up by other reviews and feedback made by other happy V995 users who you will find online, a few of which are published at the end of this article.

I was expecting this to be a moderate performing radar detector and was even expecting to have to deal with quite a few false alarms since this is a model that is not the latest and greatest on the market. But it was surprisingly accurate and for the most part had few false alarms. In the city as long as I used AutoScan it did better at avoiding these but I did cut down on the range. But then I do not travel at high enough speeds in the city to need a long range. My only complaint on this model is really a small one and that it is hard to use on a visor. I like having my radar detector on my visor as opposed to on the dash and it since the buttons are on the top it makes getting to them against the visor a little tough. Small complaint, and I have learned to deal with it since it does do such a great job of helping me avoid speed traps
I find this a very useful tool on the highway. Yes, it can be beat for more money. This is a great budget detector. It can be found for less than $300. I got it at Radioshack, and they will honor the warranty. It costs about $220 and change with tax included! It could possibly be less during the holidays.
It does a good job up picking up I/O. On my way home from college, I let my friend use it on his travels. Every time I see him, since I live with him, it’s always the same. “Hey, thanks for the RD. I think it just paid itself off.” 🙂
Stealth is not an issue here in NY. Just make sure to pack it up, and out of sight when not in use in your car.

This is as good as it is going to get for the price, I have brought all different type of radar between beltronics, whistler, cobra models and this model right here is the best. Why pay more for a radar detector if u get the same quality from this one the beltronics vector 995. I have tested this out numerous time and never got a ticket. It even warned me about a laser and I slowed down just in time lets say I was going way over the speed limit if he would of got me at that speed I would have a heavy fine.
I purchased my V955 2 years ago. At that time Radar Roy recommended the V955. I don’t know if the Bel RX65 or Escort 8500 x50 were available at that time. I have not had any issues or complaints about the V955 and I drive only in N. America. Great Radar Dector, actually the best I have owned. Laser mode is very sensitive to the Sun though. Laser is so rarely used by police due to the ability of being foiled they rarely use it anyway.
I got this to replace my Bel 940. I have definitely noticed increased range and I love the Tech Display so I can see what Ka bands are in the area.
