The funny thing is, he’s probably a Denny’s manager or something.
Seriously though, I will buy one. I am also volunteering to have a beta unit put on my car.

Sounds like what is known in the photography world as a “flash slave”. Typically a “slave” sensor is connected to your camera so that it senses a photo flash and then activates a secondary flash at the instant you snap the shutter. Some slave flash units do not need any connection to the camera, such as a Quantaray MS-1 ($20) which senses a flash, then flashes back automatically. With a little photography knowledge, you should be able to rig up one of these DIY using a flash slave. Also, by using this approach, the flash would flash back, also possibly sending a visible “flash” into the eyes of the driver behind you and that driver may call in your tag number. How do you get around that? A good idea nevertheless.

  9. It's true except maybe the 1 mph part. A state trooper told me there is a 5mph cushion, but that's it. Of course, if it is a different state trooper….

Officials at some cities here have begun working with their police departments to come up with ways to screw the public by installing photo radar cameras at certain places just to trap motorists for extra revenue for city/police/courts, but not for improving road safety. I will give a hint for one such city — its name implies the city is a mirage! Perhaps their photo radar scheme is also a mirage. The scheme goes like this. The photo radar companies strike a deal with the city police dept to install free equipment at several places where the device may be warranted due to traffic violations, but these companies also want one or two extra locations where they know they can make a boat load of money by targeting motorists. The police and city management go along with this scheme and forces their traffic safety staff to validate their decision as one driven by “safety”. We all get screwed until someone in the media exposes this stuff.
