BTST Radar Detector Scam
Recently, a twenty seven year old former rookie race car driver who was quoted in 2002 as saying “Live fast, retire young and become a mortgage broker” has entered the US radar detector arena by marketing what he calls his “kick-ass radar detector”, the BTST.
Adam makes some outrageous claims on his website about his radar detector and offers it to you for free for 30 days. Then when you click to order you’re directed to PayPal the term reveal “Free for the first 30 days, then $299.00 for five years”
Ah, marketed just like all the other mortgage brokers that retired rich and bankrupted our international financial system!
I suspect that the truth is that this is not one of Adam’s inventions that he claims he developed, but a repackaged radar detector that is sold in Europe under the Quintezz name and sold for €150 euros or around $149.00.
The only thing Adam does say that holds any bit of truth is that this detector is “Absolutely banned and smuggled in by French Motorists”.
What Adam is in fact saying is that his BTST radar detector does not hold part 1 FCC certification (Federal Communications Commission) which is required of all electronics devices sold in the USA and that his “crew” commits another federal felony by smuggling these into the US!
I hope that US consumers do not fall for Adam’s scam and become part of his illegal activities by owning a device that is outlawed for use in the USA/Canada and does not live up to his outrageous claims!
Update – 2/9/2009 11:50 PM MST
A few hours after I publishing this post Adam changed his offer on his website from being “free for 30 days” with the first payment of $299.00 over five years, to the upfront price of $299.00! Adam also removed the 800 number for US callers and replaced it with an international telephone number to the UK.
Update – 2/10/2009 12:41 AM MST
Adam has now went back to his scam of charging $299.00 after 30 days for 5 years. Also replaced the UK telephone number with a US 800 telephone number. Also if you click on the “Contact” link on the bottom of his site it just reloads the page, with NO EMAIL! Ok, you buy his piece of crap radar detector, you don’t like it, how the hell do you contact him to return it? Hey Adam, care to respond???
Update – 2/11/2009 08:341 AM MST
Yesterday we filled a complaint with Google AdWords regarding Adam’s Ad. This morning I received an email back from Google relating that they would be investigating my complaint. When I checked for Adam’s ad’s I didn’t notice any so I assume that Google has followed up on my complaint and removed Adam’s ads because they violate Google’s term’s of service.
As a side note, we have not heard anything back from Adam regarding an email we sent to him for his comments.

Hey Roy.
Boy am I glad I hunted around for a review of some sort. The guy is a crook. The offer at the moment is to have it on 30 day trial. Send it back if you don’t want it. What’s the betting you have to pay up front and then hope to God that you get a refund. It feels like I really should send this to everyone I know and ask them to pass it on to everyone that they know.
Good for you. Mike.
I bought both the radar detector and the BTST from Adam Blair.Like everyone else found the man to be a crook, couldn’t make contact, finally took him to small claims court and won. The I find that the pathetic baillif service work on his side and they charge £100 to tell you that “He has no assets” Like blazes. I finished up over £800 out of pocket but I learned never to use Small claims agin.
