Blinder M27/M47 Laser Jammer Review
“The best LED Based Laser Jamming System made today” –Radar Roy 2009
Still the best LED based Laser Jammer made today
Top Reasons to Consider the Blinder M27 and M47 Laser Jamming System
- Eye Safe and FDA approved
- Low power LED lights guarantee long life, unlike other higher power units
- Optimal detection and jamming of all police laser systems
- USB port for updating firmware and technology upgrades
- Parking assist mode, can be powered on and off as needed
- Blinder is the owner of the only active US Patent for police laser jamming technology. Don’t be fooled by imports that violate this patent by utilizing inferior technology.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Blinder M27 and Blinder M47
- How easy is it to install the Blinder Laser jammer and can I move it from vehicle to vehicle? On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate installation at a 7. I would recommend that you have had experience installing other 12 volt automotive devices such as car stereos or a CB radio. If you do not feel qualified to install the unit I would recommend contacting your local Best Buy store or other independent 12 volt installer and obtain quotes. Installation typically takes a few hours, so I wouldn’t recommend moving it from car to car.
- My radar detector says it detects laser so why would I need a laser jammer? “When you’re shot your got” Laser is instant, if you don’t have a laser jammer and your laser detector goes off and your speeding the officer has already clocked your speed, just pull over. And in most cases, your radar detector will never alert to a police laser gun. At 500 feet the width of the laser beam is only 18” inches and police officers are trained to shoot the most reflective parts of your car which are the front license plate and your headlamps. Typically your radar detector will be outside this window of the laser beam and will only activate if there is “splatter” from the officers laser gun.
- Do I need laser jammers for the front of my car and the rear? Nationally, 97% of all police laser attacks are aimed at the front of your car. The only region that I am aware of that focuses on rear laser traps are the Dallas Forth Worth area, where they shoot laser from overpasses. Are you taking a risk by not having rear protection, yes but unless you live or drive around the DFW area, the odds are in your favor.
- I have a full size SUV/Pickup; will the M27 be sufficient to protect the front of my vehicle? No, the M27 would not be sufficient; you would need the four heads of the M47 system. On large profile vehicles I typically install one head close to each headlamp and one sensor high center and the other low center. The best way to make sure that you have the frontal section of your car/SUV protected is to cut out an 18” circle and put the center of this circle over each sensor making sure that you have the most reflective portions (front plate and headlamps) of the front of your vehicle protected.
- Is Laser Jamming Legal? Unlike radar jamming which is illegal in the US and carries hefty fines levied by the Federal Communications Commission, there is no federal law prohibiting laser jamming. In fact laser is not regulated by the FCC but by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). However there are states that do have laws that prohibit jamming of police laser guns, these states include: Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois and Washington DC.
- I live in a state where laser jamming is illegal what can I do? In my entire 15 year career in the speed counter measurement industry I have only heard of one instance where someone was issued a citation for operating a laser jammer and that was from a motorist in California. Now I’m not recommending that you break any laws, but here is a thought. If you’re driving in a state where laser jamming is illegal and your laser jammers active, slow down and turn the unit off. That way as you approach the officer you will be at the speed limit and the officer will be able to get a speed reading on your car. I also recommend that you use this same practice when driving in states where laser jamming is legal.
- Can I mount the M27 on a motorcycle? Yes, in fact I have a pair installed on my Harley Ultra Classic.
- What are some of the top states that use police laser enforcement? California, Colorado, Florida, Texas, Arizona, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Ohio are the big states. Laser enforcement is growing in popularity each day, if laser is not in your community yet, it will be soon.
Potential Issues with the Blinder M27/47
- Proper installation of any laser jamming system is critical for it to work properly. Each laser jamming head must be level to the roadway and pointed straight ahead. You can position the heads either vertically or horizontally, however in my testing I find for best performance in frontal attacks to position the heads horizontally and for best protection from overhead shots (overpasses) position them vertically.
My Bottom Line Recommendation for the Blinder M27/47
Today you need the protection of a laser jamming system to be ticket free and there are only three choices the Blinder M27/M47 system, the Escort ZR4 system, or the Laser Interceptor system.
The main advantages of the Blinder system over the Laser Interceptor system are:
- Low power LED’s = Longer bulb life (Laser Interceptor does has lifetime warranty)
- Blinder holds the US patent for laser jamming in the USA.
The main advantage of the Blinder system over the Escort ZR4
- Better jamming performance on the Stalker police laser gun
- Ability to update the Blinders firmware via USB port
This Based upon my 20 years in law enforcement as a certified police radar instructor and 15 years being involved in the speed counter measurement industry.

Routinely travel three states with different laser equipment. Warning is adequate with time to reduce speed prior to lock if not blocked to gun. We have M25, M27 and M47 on different vehicles. The key difference is the ability to update data bases on the “7s”. The M’s and Valentine One have kept us in the ticket free zone. Highly recommended!”
The M27 is a great laser jammer. If installed correctly, it will jam ever police lidar gun except the laser ally. We did a test in Atlanta and I sucussfully jammed the Truspeed and Stalker lidar gun. I would recommend this jammer to everyone I meet. 5 stars!
The New Blinder M27 and M47 units are increditable. My blinders have saved me over $6000 in 5 years. I have owned the Blinder M20, M25 and M45 and now have a Blinder M47. They sucessfully Jammed every laser gun everytime. I would recommend this jammer to anyone who travels alot and is tired of speeding tickets!!
These are so cool.
I first saw them about 2 years ago and that’s how i stumbled upon you RR!
I don’t know if i would ever get one (legality im not sure of) – but they are still so cool!
Thanks RR.
I’m going to have to get one of these!!
I have a full size F-350 dually and run the M-27 and have not had any problems with it stopping laser until you are about 50 ft then it punches through. I bought mine from you because you give great advice and that was 7 years ago and it is still working great.
I find it unsettling, bordering on disgust, that a “former law enforcement officer” would be touting and promoting the sale and use of a device who’s sole purpose is to help those who disregard the law (speed LIMITS)not get caught. I’ve been on the road with these idiots who think that the highway is a NASCAR or F-1 track, with speeds in excess of 100 mph … weaving in and out of traffic like a madman/woman.
Why, officer, would you be part of this?
I guess you had not taken the time or effort to read further into our site as I do not condone this type of reckless behavior nor do the products we review encourage it
@Jared. I think that your disgust probably comes from a current career in law enforcement – just a guess. I for one am glad that Radar Roy helps share his insights but no one including myself condone reckless driving you describe. This type of behavior is readily observable without radar or laser speed detection.
The reality is that in many states like my own here in New York where there are over 4,600 troopers many of which aggressively and in stealth manner act as tax collectors for the state and revenue generators for the insurance companies. What is aggressive – hiding in the woods, lights off on a dark blue car at night and using laser for speed enforcement on rural interstate highways. Laser was invented to help identify and measure speed of vehicles in densely urbanized environments where radar is not very effective as it doesn’t identify the high speed vehicle.
In New York where most speed limits are set for political reasons and not traffic safety reasons they openly stated that they were using Laser because it defeats radar detectors when first introduced in 1993 by the NYSP. During the introduction at a media event Trooper Lee N. Gasparik proudly boasted “If your detector goes off,his is what you should do: put on your signal light and pull over, because I’m going to talk to you.” Trust me that talk is going to come with a hefty fine. Laser is being used to make law enforcement’s job easier and to reduce my right to know when I am under surveillance by law enforcement.
If the NYSP was truly interested in traffic fatalities and accidents they would measure that and not how many tickets were written. Supervisors would change tactics of hiding to write speeding tickets and instead being visible and moving on the highways to get more people to comply. When people see police cars they comply with the law and if compliance is the desired outcome and not revenue then police would be more visible.
Until speed limits are set based on traffic safety and engineering survey’s instead of political reasons (i.e. in NYS Village Speed is 30 regardless if it’s a US highway with 4 lanes like US 20) Until police officers stop enforcing just yards after speed limit reductions or are in hiding trying to trap drivers then I say GOD BLESS RADAR ROY! He helps educate us so we can make smarter decisions while driving.
BTW – The NYSP and their LTI Marksman on the Thruway have yet to catch me speeding with my blinders and veil. The only time I have been pulled over was because a pissed off laser cop didn’t like my veil coated license plate cover. Too bad the prosecutor in Oneida county dropped the charges
Their Stalker Duals are no match for my Beltronics Pro Series.
jared, so i take it never once in your life have you ever been speeding…hes not doing anything wrong. its simply helping for those who like everyone including yourself speed once in a while without even realizing your speeding. and did you forget this is america where capitalism is perfectly legal. no crime to make money however he sees fit. i dont see him saying one word about it being ok to drive like a nascar driver on the highway as you put it so why dont you quit worrying about him and get a life man!
Honestly, the police give WAY too many tickets and the limits are WAY too low. I mean, 55mph PSL’s on 3 lane highways? I do 80mph EASY on these type of roads and SAFELY. It’s proven that raising the speed limit (tests were done in Ohio and several other states) increase traffic flow without increasing risk. The cars of today can handle higher speeds than the average PSL, yet with this economy our wallets can’t handle all the fines (if you even call them fines, I call it highway robbery). I’ve never been in an accident, yet I’ve received thousands of dollars in speeding tickets. May I ask, what these tickets are for if I’m not actually doing anything overly risky/dangerous?
Well, government and police won’t answer or even acknowledge these questions, so I am forced to take it into my own hands and defend myself with technology such as this.
The government is stealing our money every way they can, I’m not going to let them get me for speeding anymore.
will these work on systems i9n the UK and can we obtain them here?
yes, will work there as far as buying the in the UK, I don’t know, sorry
Blinder’s website should be able to provide information on retailers based on geographic area.
Also, their site strongly cautions that you buy *only* from a source in your local country, as the systems are calibrated differently depending on which region of the world you are in. – Do Not Import From Other Countries -
Hope this helps!
Roy is a great resource and is quick to respond to emails.
Took me a couple of hours to install the M47 properly and tested it against a Laser Atlanta with JTG each time all the way past the gun. I placed the heads two high and two low which was quite a challenge as I have a Toyota Tundra with a bullbar and driving lights already. As long as the receivers in the heads are visible the LEDs will JTG since the lower heads are placed right beside the bullbar and the corners of the heads are partially blocked. My 9500ix did not even pick up the LIDAR signal while the Blinder JTG. Great product and will be purchasing the M27 for my wife’s car. Keep up the great work Roy.
Have you tried it against the new laser ally gun. Just wodering if the claims that it can not be jammed are true or just a sales trick. I have an M-45 and have had no tickets to date from Laser.
Not recently, I will be getting one soon to test
did you test it yet?
@ Charles – If you’re asking if I have tested the Blinder, yes many times. Here are a few of the Laser Jamming Test Results
Are these detectable in states they are prohibited in?
@matt They may produce an error code and you wouldn’t want to go by an officer without him getting a reading, so I would recommend shutting them off and slowing down after they activate to avoid suspicion
Hi Mr Roy. How are you? Im writing first time to you. Recently in my country Peru-southamerica the police-force have started to use a laser-speed detector. The brand is Laser Technology INC.- ULTRALITE LTI 20-20…. So I’ll like to have a recomendation from you, what kind of gadgets, devices must I buy. for examp. its only enough with the Blinder M47 ??? or must need a laser detector too…(i have a small toyota corolla)
Thank you very much for your attention.
Hi Ricardo, either the Blinder or the Laser Interceptor would work, the LI 20/20 is a pretty easy gun to jam for either of them
Hi Roy.
I am looking in to get the best radar detector and laser jammer for my Audi A6.
I like the stealth version of the 9500ci but it seems like the M47 are the better choice as far as laser jammers go. What is your opinion on the 9500 kit and the jammers that comes with it, are they good enough?
Mats
The Blinder is a great laser jammer and much better than the ZR4′s that come with the 9500ci. What I would recommend is checking out the Bel STi-R Plus which is also stealth and then get the Blinder
Great.
Thanks, that sounds like a. Very good option.
Has anybody used the wireless install kit for the blinder? Seems like a no brainier if it works!
@Ohio I have used it in several installs works great
thanks fo being here
I sometimes like to cruse my c6/z06 w/620 kit on the interstate at 200+ when no ones around, may try the jammer,my family is in law enformancement….
Hopefully no aircraft enforcement will be flying overhead at the same time…
It wouldn’t matter much as no departments I’m aware of are flying anything capable of anything near that speed.
Roy,
What laser jammer(s) do you use on your cars?
On my F350 LI and on the bikes and cars Blinders
I am trying to decide which to buy. A Laser Interceptor or a Blinder M47. I have a Ford expedition and a Chev Malibu. My thinking is that if I get the M47 I could put 2 heads in the Malibue which i drive 95% of the time and 2 heads in the Expedition which I only need protection in when I go on vacation once a year. I would be able to move the in in cab parts of the unit the one time each year without haveing to remove the heads and reroute the wiring. A deal breaker is would 2 of the M47 heads protect the Espedition enough? I don’t drive like a maniac but do drive for a living so tickets are a no no. I meantion this because I won’t need warning time for 100 mph. I probably only run around 80 to 85 in the Ford on 65 to 70 mph interstates.
No, two heads of a Blinder would not protect the Expedition, would need 4
You would also need to buy an additional controller if you were to split these up
Wasn’t going fast, but two motorcycle officers with LIDAR were both JTG and it was priceless to see them pressing and resetting the buttons on their guns with a perplexed look. Even though I have 2 out of the 4 jammer sensors behind a wire aftermarket grille, the jammers worked perfectly. Recently installed a M27 on my wife’s 09 Acura MDX and she JTG on WA state patrol officer even though she wasn’t going over posted limit. Got both my 2010 Tundra and 09 MDX with radar detectors too…a 9500ix and Bel STI warnings go off at the same time as the Blinders jamming the gun. The detectors and jammers will pay for themselves in a few years. Thanks Roy for this wonderful and informative site.
Not a good idea to go JTG, I would recommend after the jammer activates and you slow down to power the jammer off. That way they don’t become suspicious
I accidentally clicked “Yes” and left positive feedback for this review…
Steve, you’re an idiot. An irresponsible idiot.. Quit jamming to the gun.
God, you’re a fugging moron.. I can only pray and that the theories of Darwin eventually win the day..
Would this or the HP905 be a more suitable choice for a 3-series BMW coupe? I have a couple and am wondering what to go with on my DD/travel car.
Would go with the HP905, much more power
I have a M27 and it has warned me several times of laser hitting my car, but today in GA, I had a sheriff stop me and tell me I was speeding. I have a radar detector and I am sure it would have gone off if it had been radar.. Is there some laser equipment that is not detected by this jammer?? I drive a cadillac DHS. I was really stunned! I have two detectors mounted on my grill and to this point in time had no problem.
Sounds like Vascar, it is a timing device, does not use radar or laser
What is Vascar and how do you “jam” it? Can you add two more sensors to the back of your car if you have the M27? Or is TX the only place they do rear Laser?
Vascar is a timing device like a stop watch. An officer clocks the time it takes for you to go from point a to point b
As this is a visual type device using no RF or laser you cannot detect it nor jam it.
As far as laser, just about every state today have laser guns. And yes, if you have a M27 you can add 2 more laser sensors
