Beltronics GX65 Radar Detector Review
This weekend I received a final production model of the Bel RX65 radar detector and immediately installed it in my truck for my preliminary review.
This is an awesome unit! Not only can the detector detect X, K, Ka and Ku band (after activation) but is also a GPS unit equipped with the Trinity fixed traffic camera database for the USA and Canada.
The GPS will alert you to fixed photo radar and red light cameras that you are approaching.
I logged over 100 miles with the unit and was so impressed with its performance that I produced the following video.
I’ll be using the GX65 radar detector as my daily driver over the next few weeks and will follow-up with a more detailed video about the detectors performance next month….

Your blog looks good. Have a nice day. James.
Looks like a winner !
I especially like how the RD can be updated by a usb cable.
how does it compare to the other GPS detectors?
So far the 9500ix has more features with the auto programming of false alerts, but otherwise its pretty close in performance. Been driving around with it for a couple weeks
Any thoughts on Bel vs. Escort GPS enabled units? I am doing the “test drive” with the Bel GX65 and am impressed. I love Beltronics, but if the Passport 95ooix is better I’ll consider switching.
Remember Escort and Beltronics are the same company. The advantage of the 9500ix is that it has the smart false alert feature, the GX65 does not.
Hi Roy,
I just got rid of my Bel RX65 and I am looking to step up a notch. If you have the choice to get the Bel RX65 or the Escort 9500ix, which would you choose and why? I am not partial to either one since i have owned from both companies and now they are as one anyhow!
Thanks in advance….

Hi, i just know about GX65 and his feature, GPS function. Can you tell me, please, if i can update with other maps? Provided by producer or not. Or, if i can load (in any way) the coordinates of cameras from my contry?
I live in Europe, Romania.
Thanks in advance and apologize for my english. I hope you understand what i want to ask.
Currently the DB is for Canada and the USA only
You cannot write/change it
Hi Roy,
I was very impressed with your review on the Beltronics GX65 Radar Detector. I think its main advantage over other radars is it has GPS. I was also looking at the STi Driver Radar Detector. I want to buy one of these but not sure of the major differences. Is it worth paying an extra $50 for the STI or is it better to get the Gx65? I’m interested in a device that does GPS also Dps, camera vans in Arizona are popping up everywhere. What are your thoughts?
Thanks
Kirk
Unless you’re in VA, I would suggest that you check out the Escort 9500ix. The benefits with the IX is that it automatically adds the frequent false alert locations for you, where the GX65 you have to add them yourself

Thanks Roy I’m going to buy the Escort 9500ix it looks like exactly what I need. I have two outstanding tickets for speeding in Scottsdale Arizona. I have not paid them yet. What is the law here? I was told you don’t have to until you get summoned. Could you please tell me or point me to a website? I have just moved over from the United Kingdom and the law is very different here. Thanks a lot!
Hi Roy,
I have a STi that I purchased a couple of years ago from you when it first came out (one of the best detectors I have ever had bar none).
A friend of mine is looking to purchase one and I wanted to know what the best option was today for someone that lives in Canada (Ontario). Is the STi still the best or are there other comparable RDs?
thanks
Wondering if the escort 9500ix has the same `stealth` capabilities as the STi? If the escort does have the same degree of invisibility would it not be much better to buy the STi if you live in an area with higher penalties for using radar devices?
No, the 9500ix does not have the Stealth capabilities of the STI
Ones that do are the 9500ci, the STI-r and of course the STI
Hello Radar Roy,
First let me say ” Thanks for all the good info on your site!!” Anyway, I’m interested in a portable radar Detector with GPS that can be slaved to a perminate installation of a Laser jammer. In one of my cars I have an RX-65 connected to an Beltronics 904 Laser Jammer. It’s nice having the ability to take the detector with me when I leave on vacations. I will soon be spending a lot of time in AZ that is why I’m interested in a unit with the GPS.
Thanks,
John
Hey John, thanks for your comments!!
I would recommend either the Escort 9500ix or the Bel GX65, but will work with your 904
Also I would suggest that you sign up for my buyers guide at http://www.radarroysbuyersguide.com
It has more great info and also a 10% off Gift card that you can use!!!
I just got the GX65 at Circuit City for 30% off, authorized dealer going out of business!
Roy,
I checked your video and am inching toward the GX65 because I am driving in Suburban MD and they are starting to go static camera happy. BUT I do find myself in Virginia and would appreciate the Stealth feature of STI. Does the GX65 have a stealth mode I can activate?
No, the GX65 does not have Stealth, only the STI has this feature
Has there ever been a test using a Car Bra (frontal car cover black)against laser, inconjunction with veil or jammer.
also when you get a chance can you test the gx65, I want to see how much time you have to reduce speed after gx65 alert while using veil before laser lock and then zr4 with veil or any combinations(trying to reduce speed before laser lock).
The US Cheetah Rep has a bra on his Toyota that is black and yes it is very effective.
As far as getting time for a Veil test for the GX65 that is a great idea, however time is the problem right now. A Veil test would eat up a whole day
Roy, When I mark a zone for speed traps, will the trinity database be updated when I connect to it? That is will Trinity share my identified hotspotds with other users?
Also, will trinity update foreign countries or just the US ( I go to New Zealand and Australia alot)?
No, it will only update your database
If you are aware of a new camera location that is not in their DB send them an email about it
As far as the NZ AU databases, I don’t think that they have one yet
hello,
I just upgraded from a OLD Cobra to a GX65 and all i can say is wow…
My issue is it does not pick up all redlight camera’s. i Live in NS canada.
How does beltronic find and apply new targets to the database upgrades we download?
If there are cameras that are not showing up get me the info and I will forward to some contacts I have
Hi, does the gx65 work in Australia. My current beltronics is getting old & time for an update but havent seen this model for sale yet.
I get hit mainly by Ka and Laser
The GPS features would not cover AU but the detector would be fine. Better option would be the RX65
Hi Roy,
I was looking on radarbusters.com regarding the Beltronics GX65 and it states that the detector has 360-degree radar and laser coverage. On the Beltronics website it only states 360-degree laser coverage. Is this a typo on radarbusters or something that Beltronics is not stating.
In reality all radar detectors made today have 360 degree protection, meaning that they can detect radar front, back and the side. However laser is another animal altogether. Laser is a very narrow beam of light and for the detector to alert to it that beam must be focused on the radar detector. Sure the detector has a port on the top for 360 laser but for a laser beam to travel through the rear of your car and hit the detector is questionable.
Roy, have you ever got a chance to test the new
Cobra 9970G performance ,if so, do you think is
worth to buy this unit (Performance Wise)
Thanks!
