Cheetah GPS Mirror
During the SML Radar Detector Shoot Out, Ally gave me a demo of his new GPS Mirror system.
Not only does their mirror alert you to fixed red light and speed camera locations, but their unit also allows you to interface many of the popular radar detectors and laser jammers into the mirror, allowing; voice alerts, band control, city mute, and speed mute.
These features will now allow the user to even conceal a dash mounted radar detector under the hood such as the Beltronics STi in a protective case, giving full stealth capabilities while still being able to control the radar detector functions through the mirror!
The following video demonstrates the GPS Mirror in action, detecting a red light camera in El Paso.
SML 2007 Radar Detector Shoot Out
On June 22nd through 24th, Carl Fors of Speed Measurement Laboratories hosted his 2007 Radar Detector Shoot Out in El Paso Texas.
Representatives from Cobra, BGTech, Atowave, Beltronics, Escort, Cheetah, Whistler and Q3 were some of the manufactures that brought out their new products to be tested by Carl’s posse of Texas law enforcement officers. Various radar and GPS scenarios that included instant on, POP, long range, false alert and audio response tests on the various products. In the coming weeks the final results will be published on the SML and RadarBusters websites.
While at the test, I videoed several of my own reviews and an install of the new Blinder M-47 laser jammer. These will all be available in the coming week here on my blog.
RadarJammers Taken Down
Faced with fines of $11,000.00 per day of continued sales of the Rocky Mountain radar jamming products, President Allen Kent of Rolla Missouri has decided to take down his popular radar jammer website.
Last month, RadarJammers.com website had posted on their home page that the FCC was attempting to shut them down and that I, (Radar Roy) and my “cronies” had written letters to senators and congressmen saying how their units were a scam and that they didn’t work.
This first website to be shut down is significant, as it has had the number one listing in Google for the term “radar jammers” for several years.
There are several other websites that were found in violation in the FCC order, and their websites are still up and running. But repeated phone calls and emails to these companies remain unanswered.
Whislter Pro 78 and XTR690 review
During the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, I got my first peek at the new Pro 78 and the XTR690 radar detectors from Whistler.
What impressed me most was Whistler’s commitment to raise the bar by developing a new line of detectors that would put them into the same class as the higher end models from Beltronics and Escort.
During the March RadarBusters and Guys of Lidar testing, Mike Batton, an engineer from Whistler provided pre-production models that we pitted against the “Big Three” and we were all impressed with Whistler’s overall performance.
This pasted weekend we obtained retail samples of both models and took them out to our testing location.
Both models were definitely better performers then any of Whistler’s prior products and they both out performed anything Cobra ever came out with, but were they as good as the higher end Escort or Bel units on sensitivity and/or performance, no.
However I must give Kudos to the engineers at Whistler for certainly raising the bar on what I would classify as entry level or mid priced radar detectors.
What impressed me most in my review were the added features that Whistler included, such as a battery voltage meter, a backlit blue LCD screen that is easy to read and then their “periscope” LED alert lights ontop of the detector that will certainly grab your attention during an alert.

How the Spectre Works
One of the areas that I feel is important to our RadarDetector.org clients is the educational content that we provide. In the coming weeks I’m going to shift from preparing long and sometimes complicated text articles to online videos and podcasts to our membership on here and RadarDetector.net. These videos will cover product testing of speed countermeasure devices and give you some insight on how police radar and laser works.
I’m also polling our members to come-up with some ideas on videos that they would like to see, perhaps how to install a laser jammer, or how police officers calibrate radar equipment. If you have an idea please PM me, RadarRoy on RadarDetector.net.
This first video from my archives is a couple years old, but it shows how a police officer would use a Spectre RDD to sniff out radar detectors.
A few years after Kustom Signals introduced their VG2 RDD, Beltronics shifted their LO (Local Oscillator) frequency, thus making their units the first detectors invisible to VG2. Other radar detector companies shortly followed suit and within a few short years, VG2 as an RDD was obsolete. Enter Stealth Microsystems from Australia with their new RDD, the Spectre.
The Spectre detects every radar detector made today with the exception of the new Beltronics STi. Once again Beltronics was the leader in the industry to develop the first radar detector that would not leak any RF (Radar Frequency) thus defeating the Spectre and all future RDD devices.
